أكد وزير المياه والبيئة المهندس توفيق الشرجبي، أن الجمهورية اليمنية عازمة على مواصلة جهودها مع دول العالم لمواجهة تداعيات تغير المناخ، وجعل أسبوع المناخ في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا 2023، ومؤتمر الأطراف الثامن والعشرين (COP 28) الذي تستضيفه الإمارات في نوفمبر المقبل، نقطة فارقة في الجهود الوطنية للتكيف مع التغيرات المناخية.
وأشار الشرجبي في كلمته خلال مشاركته، اليوم، في أعمال اجتماع وزراء العرب المعنيين بشؤون البيئة، المنعقد على هامش أسبوع المناخ في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا 2023، في العاصمة السعودية الرياض، الى التحديات التي تواجه اليمن والمنطقة جراء التغيرات المناخية.. مستعرضا اجراءات الحكومة اليمنية للوفاء بالتزاماتها نحو التعهدات والاتفاقيات الدولية المعنية بالتغيرات المناخية، بالإضافة إلى الإشكاليات والتأثيرات المناخية التي تتعرض لها بلادنا بما فيها الأعاصير وتدهور البيئة الساحلية واستنزاف وتلوث المياه والتصحر.
وشدد على أهمية تعزيز التعاون العربي وخلق شراكات حقيقية في سبيل تحقيق تقدم فعال للتصدي للتغيرات المناخية.. مشيداً بنجاح مؤتمر الأطراف السابع والعشرين للتغيرات المناخية الذي نظمته جمهورية مصر العربية العام الماضي.. مثمناً جهود دولة الامارات العربية المتحدة في التحضير والإعداد لمؤتمر الأطراف الثامن والعشرين في دبي… لافتا الى ان استضافة المنطقة العربية لآخر نسختين للمؤتمر الأممي يعكس في حد ذاته المساهمة القيمة للمجموعة العربية في الجهود الدولية لإيجاد حلول مناخية تتناسب مع حجم المشكلة، وتؤكد التزاماتها نحو الاتفاقية الدولية للتغيرات المناخية.
